Ending Dependency on Large Energy Grids with Viable Solutions

A Road Less Taken – Energy Choices for the Future

A Road Less Taken: Energy Choices for the Future from Fairewinds Energy Education on Vimeo.

This week Fairewinds' podcast compares the paradigm of 20th century large nuclear power plants to the new 21st century paradigm utilizing smaller interconnected renewable sources of power in what is called distributed generation. Significant advances in digital equipment and computers, like cell phones and cloud computing, are creating a new energy future using diverse sources of power that are less expensive and have a smaller environmental footprint. World condemns Israeli air strikes on Gaza Strip

South Koreans condemn the recent Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip during a protest rally in Seoul on November 16, 2012

Hundreds of pro-Palestinian activists have staged protest rallies in several world capitals against the recent wave of Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip.

A large number of South Koreans demonstrated opposite the Israel embassy in Seoul on Friday to show solidarity with Palestinians in the latest escalation with the Tel Aviv regime, and urge Israel to stop violence against Gazans.

An unnamed South Korean human rights activist, who took part in the protest said, “You must not force the Palestinians to sacrifice. You must not kill children anywhere. Children are precious whether in Palestine or in Israel. They must not die in a massacre. We are calling on Israel to come back to its senses.”

On Friday, Australians also protested against the Israeli offensive in Gaza.

Sylvia Hale, a former parliament member, said, “The Israelis are adopting a policy of slaughtering the people in Gaza.”

Meanwhile, protest rallies were held in Istanbul, Ankara, Rome and Madrid in addition to the Arab world - in Tunisia, Yemen, Egypt and Algeria.

“I believe that all Muslims should show solidarity. Factions and differences destroy our goal. If we want to answer Israel, we must do it together. We won't achieve anything by condemning Israel. We must take real action,” Ali Golin, a protestor in Istanbul, said.

The new wave of Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip has claimed at least 41 lives since November 14. Ahmed al-Ja'abari, the popular and influential head of the Hamas military wing, the Ezzedeen al-Qassam Brigades, was assassinated in an Israeli attack on his car on Wednesday.

On Friday, Ahmed Abu Jalal, a field commander of the Ezzedeen al-Qassam Brigades, was killed in an Israeli airstrike on the central Gaza district of Maghazi.

The Israeli military frequently carries out airstrikes and other attacks on the Gaza Strip, saying the actions are being conducted for defensive purposes. However, in violation of international law, disproportionate force is always used and civilians are often killed or injured.

Gaza has been blockaded by the Tel Aviv regime since 2007, a situation that has caused a decline in the standard of living, unprecedented levels of unemployment, and unrelenting poverty.

America’s Takeover of the United Nations

By: Mahdi Darius Nazemroaya

Source: Global Research
http://www.globalresearch.ca/americas-takeover-of-the-united-nations/

The calls at the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) summit in Tehran for reforming the United Nations and democratizing the Security Council were not exactly new. These calls for UN reform were embodied by the conference’s dictum of “lasting peace through joint global governance.” These demands have been made over and over again by various countries and groups throughout the years.

Nor was everyone present at the NAM gala in Tehran a friend of Iran or open to the Iranian proposals for reforming the United Nations. The visibly shaken Jeffrey Feltman, who was uncomfortably sitting with Iranian officials in Tehran alongside his new boss Ban Ki-moon, can testify to all this. Feltman is a clear symbol of how contaminated the United Nations has become by the imperialist interests of Washington.

The manipulation of the United Nations for imperialist interests, however, goes back a long way. From its inception, the United Nations was meant to facilitate the global influence of the US after the Second World War. The idea of the United Nations, which gets its name from the military coalition (called the United Nations) of the Allied countries that was formed against Germany and the Axis countries, was based on an agreement drafted by the US and the UK during the Second World War. This agreement, the Atlantic Charter, was written out while the US was officially neutral, but secretly supported the British war effort against Germany and its Axis allies by sending supplies to Britain through Canada. The US would later use the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor in Hawaii as a justification for entering the war and getting the other Allies to accept the Anglo-American Atlantic Charter during the war and then at the San Francisco Conference in 1945.

The United Nations Security Council

The membership of the UN grew from fifty-one to a hundred and fifty-nine members between 1945 and 1985, with most of the new member countries being former colonies. The UN was used as a tool to control most these former Western European and American colonies of the Third World. At first the US and its post-war allies maintained their domination over the newly formed UN and the former colonies through their numbers and then through a Western Bloc monopoly over the structures of the United Nations. Hereto this monopoly includes control over the agencies and permanent veto-wielding chairs of the fifteen-member Security Council of the United Nations.

The Security Council above all has been used by the US as a means of protecting its interests. The purpose of the Security Council veto is to reject any international resolutions and consensuses against the national interests (or more precisely the interests of the ruling elites) of the US and the other major post-World War II powers. Except for the rival Soviet Union, the US originally controlled or heavily influenced the other three permanent veto-wielding members of the UN Security Council. Britain and the US were essentially confederated and had integrated in 1941 with one another through the Anglo-American Atlantic Charter. France, as a declining power like the UK, was heavily dependent on the United States. The Chinese seat was also originally held by the Kuomintang (Chinese Nationalist Party) which was a US client.

US General Albert C. Wedemeyer was the chief of staff to Generalissimo Chiang Kai-shek, the leader of Kuomintang-ruled China before Kai-shek fled to Taiwan after the Communist Party of China took over the mainland. The US even envisioned a role for the Kuomintang in governing the former French colonies of Indo-China. Only in 1971 would Washington lose control over the Chinese seat at the UN Security Council when the People’s Republic of China was recognized as the legitimate representative of the Chinese people by the majority of the UN General Assembly and therefore handed over Taiwan’s permanent seat at the UN Security Council.

While the Soviet Union originally made the most vetoes at the UN Security Council, the situation began to change towards the second half of the Cold War and in the post-Cold War era when the US began to take the lead in making vetoes. Ironically, the US and its allies are saying that the international system is failing now due to the double vetoes of China and Russia preventing foreign intervention in Syria. No similar complaints have been made about the numerous vetoes cast by Washington in support of Israel.

Eventually the UN Security Council went beyond the function of protecting US interests after the collapse of the Soviet Union. It became a tool for projecting US interests globally as Washington began to push for unipolar post-Cold War hegemony. The Chinese and Russian double vetoes signal an end to both Pax Americana and the use of the UN Security Council to project US power.

The Secretariat of the United Nations

Besides the United Nations Security Council, the Secretariat of the United Nations has been predominately under the control of the US and its allies. At first this took place because the US and the Western Bloc had numerical superiority at the United Nations. Thus, the first two secretaries-general of the UN were from the Western European kingdoms of Norway, and Sweden. Prior to this Baron Hubert Gladwyn from the United Kingdom was the acting secretary-general of the UN. Swedish diplomat Dag Hammarskjold would visibly serve US and Western Bloc interests to the point that the Soviets and others would demand he be removed from the UN Secretariat.

As the Western Bloc began to lose its numerical advantage, control over the Secretariat would be maintained through the Security Council. The UN Security Council does this by filtering all the candidates for the top UN post in the Secretariat. Secretaries-general of the UN are appointed by the UN General Assembly based on the recommendation of the UN Security Council. Thus, the US and other permanent members of the Security Council have vetoes that can eliminate any candidates that would be hostile to their interests.

Soviet Premier Nikita Khrushchev’s condemnations about the Secretariat of the United Nations, which helped remove nationalist leaders from power across Africa and the Third World, have a resonating truth to them. After a long streak of secretaries-general that were predominately favorable to the Western Bloc, the Non-Aligned Movement would push a NAM candidate into the UN Secretariat. The NAM’s position is the basis for the elevation of Egyptian diplomat Boutros Boutros-Ghali’s to the post of UN secretary-general in 1992.

Bourtos-Ghali was the closest thing to the last independent secretary-general of the United Nations. The world, however, rapidly changed since the end of the Cold War and Washington expected a far greater degree of subservience from the Secretariat of the UN. After the Cold War UN secretaries-general were expected to act as loyal US stewards. This would start with the Ghanaian UN career bureaucrat Kofi Annan.

Kofi Annan: An Enabler of “Responsibility to Protect”

To his credit Annan is a shrewd diplomatic figure that knows how to sit on the fence, but he has cunningly served the US while appearing circumvent. Aside from the public reports about the involvement of Annan and his son Kojo in the UN’s Iraq oil-for-food scandal, the former secretary-general has a history of legitimizing US interventionism and the occupation of other UN members. Career US diplomat Richard Holbrooke, who was one of the central figures involved in the balkanization of Yugoslavia, praised Annan as one of the most supportive figures for Washington’s foreign policy in the Balkans. This is why Boutros Boutros-Ghali was pushed aside from the secretary-generalship of the UN by Washington’s veto to make way for Annan.

Annan did Washington’s bidding in the French-speaking Caribbean island-republic of Haiti. He followed the script of George W. Bush Jr. and the neo-cons to a tee in Haiti and legitimized the US-led coup involving Canada and France that removed Haitian President Jean-Bertrand Aristide. He would criminally give Washington the cover of the United Nations in the occupation of Haiti.

Kofi Annan was also instrumental in helping to put together the “Responsibility to Protect” (R2P) doctrine with Canadian diplomats to justify foreign military intervention. Two years after the Anglo-American invasion of Iraq he would give his rubber stamp to R2P in 2005, which would merely become a reinvented term replacing NATO’s “humanitarian intervention.” Before Annan was appointed as the joint peace envoy of the Arab League and United Nations to resolve the Syria crisis he participated as a panelist in a discussion about R2P and interventionism on November 4, 2011. The event is important, because it gives an idea of where Annan stands.

The panel (Responsibility to Protect – 10 Years On: Reflections on its Past, Present and Future) was undeniably supportive of R2P and NATO. Annan’s comments were no exception. The former secretary-general and soon-to-be peace envoy told the audience that he held a sympathetic position towards military intervention by the US and NATO. He specifically told the audience that he supported NATO’s military intervention in the Libyan Arab Jamahiriya and he tacitly gave his support to a similar scenario in Syria. Two of the figures involved in the event, Allan Rock (president of the University of Ottawa and former Canadian ambassador to the UN) and Lloyd Axworthy (president of the University of Winnipeg and the former Canadian foreign minister), co-authored an article about R2P praising the war in Libya as a victory for R2P a week earlier in preparation for Annan’s arrival to Ottawa.

Ban Ki-moon: An Executioner of “Responsibility to Protect”

The South Korean diplomat Ban Ki-moon is even more of an Atlanticist steward than Annan. His record has been very abysmal. One of the first things he did in 2007 was to join the US in criticizing the nations of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva for “singling out Israel” for its human rights violations.

In 2008, Ban Ki-moon would secretly negotiate and sign a cooperation agreement with NATO. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov would express shock and the Kremlin would be angered by Ban Ki-moon’s conniving. R2P would be central to the cooperation agreement between NATO and the UN Secretariat. NATO’s “humanitarian intervention” was shifted to a worldwide level through the cover of potential military intervention under the banner of the UN.

Moreover, this tool of intervention could only be harnessed and authorized by the undemocratic UN Security Council and its veto-wielding members. In parallel the under secretary-general posts for humanitarian affairs and emergency relief were handed over to British career diplomats, one of which is Valerie Amos who has sinisterly tried to bypass the Syrian government in establishing ties with Syrian non-governmental organizations (NGOs).

In 2011, Ban Ki-moon took steps to personally lobby and pressure all the countries of the Mediterranean Sea to support Israel and prevent any humanitarian aid from reaching the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip by ship. Ban Ki-moon ignored Tel Aviv’s illegal military blockade of Gaza and its violation of international law. Instead in Orwellian terms he demanded for the enforcement of the illegal Israeli blockade, which he called the “legal channels of the Israeli government pertaining to the flow of goods and aid” to Gazans. In 2012, Ban Ki-moon also refused to meet the representatives of the families of Palestinian victims and captives inside Israel while he was visiting Gaza. Inversely, Ban Ki-moon made personal efforts to secure the release of the captured Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit. As a result of Ban Ki-moon’s bias many Palestinians hurled shoes and stones at his UN convoy as it entered the Gaza Strip.

Every nuance in Ban Ki-moon’s voice and every line in his statements serve Washington’s interests. Before the secretary-general even left to Tehran for the NAM summit, his spokesman Farhan Haq told the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) that his boss was going to Tehran as part of his responsibilities and that the visit “does not confer legitimacy” on his Iranian hosts. Giving political evaluations of this type about the legitimacy of any government is a breach of the mandate of a UN secretary-general, who is supposed to be a neutral figure and moderator representing all the members of the UN. Moreover, Ban Ki-moon would go out of his way to defend Israel at the NAM summit. His speech would also be coordinated with the politicized report of the UN’s International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), which was meant to tarnish Tehran’s image during the NAM summit.

In regards to both Libya and Syria, Ban Ki-moon has followed the US and NATO script for R2P and regime change. When a major propaganda effort was launched against Syria following the Houla Massacre, Ban Ki-moon and other UN officials quickly followed the US line and condemned Damascus at a special session of the UN General Assembly in New York City. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon’s June 8 condemnation was made even though it was widely documented that anti-government forces were responsible for the murders in Houla.

The top UN official would say that every passing day was bringing “new additions to the grim catalogue of atrocities: assaults against civilians, brutal human rights violations, mass arrests, torture, execution-style killings of whole families” in Syria. He would conclude that the Syrian government had “lost all legitimacy” and had to step aside. Again this was another violation of the neutral position that the secretary-general of the UN is mandated to espouse.

Jeffrey Feltman: The Real Secretary-General of the United Nations?

Ban Ki-moon’s appointment of the hollow and comical US career diplomat Jeffrey Feltman as the UN under secretary-general for political affairs is just one of his latest moves that serve US interests. Feltman, a shameless careerist who has done whatever he could to promote himself, has been exclusively in the service of justifying the unjustifiable and pretending to be an expert on the Middle East. As a top US diplomat in the Middle East, unlike his counterparts from other countries he failed to master any of the local languages in the region. Moreover, he was complicit in the 2006 Israeli war on Lebanon and a US attaché to two foreign occupations.

Like Robert Gates, Feltman is a carryover to the Obama Administration from the Bush Jr. Administration. He was a special assistant to American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) heavyweight Martin Indyk in Israel and a representative in the US Consulate General in Jerusalem. Everything he knows about the Middle East is shaped and spoon-fed to him by the biased views of AIPAC. He was the representative of the Coalition Provisional Authority in Anglo-American occupied Iraq and later a central force for promoting sectarian hate and division in Lebanon as the US ambassador in Beirut before he was promoted to the job of US assistant-secretary of state responsible for the Middle East. The UN’s Special Tribunal for Lebanon (STL), a political circus that Washington has tried to use to indict and isolate first Syria and then later Hezbollah, is widely known to be his pet project.

Before Feltman even arrived in Tehran, one of the first things he did was to declare that Iran was sending weapons to Syria. This was immediately picked up by his friends (contacts) in the Israeli media who have favored him over the years as one of Israel’s most ardent supporters. Among others, the Israeli media also slyly tried to mention Feltman’s name as less as possible and instead attribute his statement to the entire United Nations as a means of hiding the bias source of the statements and giving his account further weight.

Feltman’s appointment by Ban Ki-moon shows just how much control Washington has over the UN Secretariat. His appointment as the individual responsible for “political affairs” says a lot about the political perspective that the UN Secretariat either has or will adopt. If Hillary Clinton had ordered US officials to spy on Ban Ki-moon as was reported in 2010, there should also be no doubt that Jeffery Feltman was monitoring Ban Ki-moon in Tehran for the US Department of State and that Feltman will brief Washington about the NAM summit. In essence Feltman was the informal representative of the US at the NAM summit. It is also a very legitimate question to ask whether Feltman or Ban Ki-moon is in charge of the UN Secretariat.

Iran had announced that it intended to propose a peace plan, with the support of Russia and China, to end the Syrian crisis on the sidelines of the NAM conference. America’s emissaries were at the summit too. The invitation of the Turks to the NAM summit and the presence of Feltman and the officials of the Arab countries that are part of the siege against Damascus, such as Qatar’s Emir Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani, are all very likely to have ties to negotiations over Syria. Same goes for the presence of Egypt’s Morsi. The US and its clients have realized that their plans in Syria have not gone through and this could secretly have brought them to the table in Tehran or elsewhere in the future.

A New Alternative to the UN is Needed

The “real” international community slapped the Obama Administration in the face from Tehran. The US and all the UN structures and agencies, including the IAEA, under Washington’s control were retorted when all of the NAM’s one hundred and twenty members unanimously supported the Iranian nuclear energy program and declared their opposition to the unilateral sanctions against Iran in their final communiqué. There is still, however, more that is needed. As long as the United Nations is not reformed these very same countries will be walking in the shadows of the US and its allies from NATOistan in the hallways of the United Nations.

The problems go beyond the Security Council. The Secretariat is also a part of the problem. Washington will turn to the UN Secretariat more and more as the Russians and Chinese begin to challenge the US and its allies at the Security Council.

The UN has become even more contaminated by Atlanticist projects to use it to legitimize and launch imperialist military campaigns to enforce a declining system of privilege and unjust global governance that Washington heads. The motivations behind the drafting and institutionalizing of R2P at the UN are aimed at helping to prevent this decline. This is why that either reform or an alternative to the United Nations is needed now more than ever.

US debt eclipses economy, reaching $16 trillion this week

Source: Russia Today
http://rt.com/usa/news/us-debt-eclipses-economy-295/

The US government is about to announce its $16 trillion debt, a landmark number that has more than tripled during the last two presidencies. At 104 per cent of the nation’s gross domestic product, the debt is now larger than the US economy itself.

The federal government closed Thursday with $15.99 trillion in debt – but some budget analysts think it most likely reached $16 trillion by the end of the day, the Washington Examiner reported. The news comes as Republicans and Democrats formally nominate their presidential candidates, and the official announcement will likely come on the first day of the Democratic National Convention on Tuesday.

“This is a grim landmark for the United States. Yet the president seems strangely unconcerned,” said Sen. Jeff Sessions of the Senate Budget Committee.

Each day, the debt grows by roughly $3.5 billion, or about $2 million per minute.

Twelve years ago, before the election of George Bush, the debt stood at $5.6 trillion. In the months before President Obama took office, the debt was $9.6 trillion. During the last presidency, it has increased by $6.4 trillion – two-thirds of its 2008 amount. The current president has overseen the largest debt explosion in US history.

This year marks the fourth consecutive year with a $1 trillion budget shortfall.

A top adviser to President Obama said the commander in chief had a “plausible plan” to stabilize the debt – without reducing it.

“You can’t balance the budget in the short term because to do that would be to ratchet down the economy,” adviser David Axelrod told Fox News on Sunday.

About 30 per cent of the total public debt is intragovernmental holdings, including money borrowed from Social Security’s trust fund.

“The national debt is certainly a ticking time bomb. There’s no question that if we don’t do something about it, it’s going off,” said Robert Bixby, the executive director of the Concord Coalition, an NGO promoting a balanced budget. “We’re spending about $200 billion on interest now. That’s much more than we’re spending on operations in Afghanistan, more than we’re spending on Medicaid.”

As the US debt makes history, the first group of baby boomers is now retiring and relying on government entitlements to get by.

While presidential candidate Mitt Romney, gave his speech at the RNC last week, a national debt clock ticked behind him to fill the convention's attendees with fear of a looming financial catastrophe.

The DNC is unlikely to feature a similar exhibit – but the federal government will likely announce its $16 trillion debt during the heat of the convention in North Carolina

US taking covert steps to cripple Syria’s Assad - newspaper

Reuters/Luke MacGregor

Source: Russia Today
http://www.rt.com/news/us-quiet-steps-remove-assad-816/

The US government has made repeated covert attempts to block arms and oil shipments to Syria, the Wall Street Journal reports. Officials said Washington also provided rebel forces with key military intelligence against President Bashar al-Assad.

The WSJ cites unnamed government officials in its report, which claims that the US has tried to coerce Iraq into blocking flights crossing through its airspace that are suspected of carrying weapons and supplies to the Assad government.

In addition, US intelligence agencies have moved to block ships believed to be transporting military equipment to Syria from traversing the Suez Canal.

Washington has recently intensified its covert efforts against Syria, in line with its stated aim of removing of President Bashar Assad.

"There is a renewed effort to crack down in any way possible," a US official told the WSJ, referencing Washington’s plan to control transit on the Suez Canal.

Officials stated that Washington had been feeding key intelligence, including satellite imagery, to the Turkish and Jordanian militaries, which support the Syrian rebel army.

There were also reports of the CIA coordinating and sharing intelligence with certain Syrian opposition groups.

The WSJ report cites the US troop withdrawal from Iraq in November of last year as the strategic opening for a possible arms supply route into Syria. The CIA tracked 76 cargo flights from Iran crossing Iraqi airspace en route to Syria in January and February.

The CIA claimed that the Iranian and Syrian governments disguised the alleged military equipment as farming materials and cut flowers.

Skepticism in the ranks

The report refers to certain figures in the US government who thought the covert measures were “limited,” and did not go far enough to curtail the Syrian government’s military capabilities.

Washington faces continued calls from Syrian opposition groups to increase pressure on the Assad regime.

"The Americans say to us that they have allowed the regional players to help us, but if they think this is an achievement… then they should know this is weak and inadequate support," Louay Mokdad of the rebel Free Syrian Army told WSJ.

Washington said that it was actively consulting with Syria’s neighbors and members of the international community to ensure the security of Syria’s chemical weapons stockpile.

"There are a variety of ways that a government or individuals can be held accountable for this kind of behavior that would result in the deliberate release of chemical weapons or use of chemical weapons," said White House spokesperson James Carney on Sunday.

Carney did not elaborate on the nature of possible measures to be taken against the Syrian government.

Meanwhile, violence continues to escalate amid reports of skirmishes between government forces and rebels in Damascus and the industrial hub of Aleppo.

Super rich stash 21 trillion in offshore havens

Source: Russia Today
http://www.rt.com/news/overshore-economy-trillions-report-789/

Wealthy tax evaders, aided by private banks have exploited loopholes in tax legislation and stashed over $21 tn in offshore funds, says a report. The capital drained from some developing countries since 1970 would be enough to pay off national debts.

The findings show the gap between the haves and the have-nots is much larger than previously thought.

The document, entitled The Price of Offshore Revisited, was commissioned by The Tax Justice Network campaign group and leaked to the Guardian. The report provides the most detailed valuation of the offshore economy to date.

"The problem here is that the assets of these countries are held by a small number of wealthy individuals while the debts are shouldered by the ordinary people of these countries through their governments," wrote James Henry, expert on tax havens and former chief economist at consultancy McKinsey in his report.

The document cites the world’s leading private banks as cherry-picking from the ranks of the uber-rich and siphoning their fortunes into tax-free havens such as Switzerland and the Cayman Islands.

The wealth of the super-rich is "protected by a highly paid, industrious bevy of professional enablers in the private banking, legal, accounting and investment industries taking advantage of the increasingly borderless, frictionless global economy."

Henry writes that a large part of the trillion dollar hoard belongs to around 92,000 individuals, an elite class of super-rich who make up 0.001 percent of the global population.

"These estimates reveal a staggering failure: inequality is much, much worse than official statistics show, but politicians are still relying on trickle-down to transfer wealth to poorer people," said John Christensen of the Tax Justice Network.

The report records the flow of capital from countries into offshores over the past few decades. Saudi Arabia saw almost $300 billion drained from their economy since the 1970s, while Russia saw almost $800 billion leave its economy in hidden assets since the fall of the Soviet Union. Nigeria issued a loss of $300 billion since the mid-1970s.

Henry points the finger at the world’s top ten private banks, among them UBS and Credit Suisse, for aiding wealthy clients to dodge taxes.

According to Henry’s figures, the top financial leaders processed more than $6 trillion in funds in 2010, more than double the previous year.

Banking system – rotten to the core

Last week the US Senate released a report damning the actions of the UK bank HSBC. The report highlighted evidence of the bank’s laÑ… security policies leading to money laundering cases.

It referenced $7 billion in cash that had crossed the Mexican border into the US and been deposited in HSBC from 2007 to 2008. The report suggests that the billions of dollars could have come from drug sales in Mexico.

The probe also shed light on a number of other instances when the bank bypassed US safeguards, potentially bankrolling terrorists and drug lords in the process.

The bank had previously had to pay out $1bn to US authorities for money laundering offenses committed between 2004 and 2010.

The G20 has repeatedly made calls to end tax-free havens since the beginning of the financial crisis in 2008, but these plans have not yet come to fruition.

UK Unions single out Israel boycott

Source: Press TV
http://www.presstv.ir/detail/140515.html

Britain's trade unionists will vote on a resolution next month at their annual conference, condemning Israel for stepping up its atrocities in the occupied Palestinian territories.

The resolution to be adopted by Britain's six-and-a-half million trade union members at thier conference in Manchester, northwest England, condemns Israeli-imposed siege on the Gaza Strip where the living conditions are increasingly being deteriorated for more than 1.5 million impoverished people living in the impoverished territory.

It states that Israel is undermining the viability of the occupied West Bank and the East Al-Quds areas and their potentials for establishing an independent Palestinian state through the deliberate strategy of annexing massive swathes of land, destroying Palestinians' homes and erecting walls and checkpoints in defiance of international laws and UN resolutions.

The resolution also strongly condemns Israeli army's assault on the Gaza Freedom Flotilla last year which was seeking to take humanitarian aid to the besieged Gaza Strip, calling on world leaders to hold Israel accountable for massacring international activists in international waters.

The UK's Trade Union Congress (TUC) Global Solidarity will also urge the British government and the EU leaders to take "much stronger political steps" to ensure Israel abides by UN resolutions.

Delegates are also urged to back instructions for the TUC General Council to "organize and support a boycott of Israeli goods, especially agricultural products that have been produced in illegal settlements in the occupied West Bank."

Affiliates and employers are also being encouraged to cease investment in Israel, with amendments to extend the boycott to companies that profit from Israel's illegal occupation, reads a copy of the final agenda obtained by the British media.

At the annual conference last year, the TUC took the historic step of voting for a boycott of Israeli goods in the first resolution of its kind since the campaign to end anti-apartheid in South Africa.

In April, trade unionists stepped up the boycott campaign with the publication of a new leaflet entitled 'Would You Buy Stolen Goods' that called on consumers not to buy any goods from illegal Israeli settlements.

The TUC conference, which kicks off on September 13, traditionally opens a new political year in Britain and is followed by a season of annual party conferences.

Tehran summit promotes nuke-free world

Source: PressTV
http://www.presstv.ir/detail.aspx?id=123344§ionid=351020104

Tehran says its upcoming denuclearization conference aims to send the message that nuclear weapons have no place in the world — particularly in the Middle East.

"We would continue to send this very strong message from the capital of Iran, Tehran, the center of the Middle East, that nuclear weapons do not have a place at all in this very sensitive part of the world," Mohammad Mehdi Akhoundzadeh, Iran's deputy foreign minister, told Press TV ahead of the international conference on nuclear disarmament scheduled for April 17th and 18th.

Officials from more than 60 countries as well as representatives from various international and non-governmental entities have been invited to the two-day conference dubbed "Nuclear energy for all, Nuclear weapons for none.”

Akhoundzadeh, who is the secretary general of the summit, also said that the conference did not mean to overshadow the nuclear summit held earlier in the US.

"This is a process, this is not a project. Some may think that this is to overshadow what's going on in Washington but we don't look at it that way," he reiterated.

Iran's ambassador to the Netherlands, Kazem Gharibabadi, said Tuesday that the conference seeks "practical" methods to oblige nuclear-armed countries to dismantle their nuclear warheads.

"Iran's main intention for holding this conference is that nuclear-armed countries take practical steps [towards disarmament]," he said in an interview with ANP, the Netherlands's national news agency.

He added that although the Nuclear Non-proliferation Treaty (NPT) came into effect 40 years ago to curb the spread of nuclear weapons across the globe, the international community was seriously concerned about the existence of thousands of nuclear weapons, which have yet to be dismantled.

Gharibabadi added that Tehran's forum would also discuss issues such as globalization of the NPT, the legal consequences of threatening to use or using nuclear weapons, as well as the need to end discrimination in the implementation of nuclear disarmament treaties.

China makes 'own decision' on trade disputes with US

Source: PressTV

Chinese Vice Commerce Minister Chen Jian has said his country will make its own decisions on the foreign exchange policy.

"The Chinese government will make responsible and independent decisions on the foreign exchange policy based on its economic and monetary situation," Chen told reporters on Friday.

The Chinese official further rejected US accusations that the yuan is undervalued.

"This is nothing to be criticized. China's foreign exchange rate is not undervalued," he added.

US officials claim that the yuan is undervalued by as much as 40 percent against the dollar.

According to Chen, the yuan was not to blame for global economic problems.

"A disease in the head cannot be cured by treating the foot," he went on to say.

"The imbalance in the world economy is rooted in mistaken policies in some countries... and imbalances in the international monetary management system."

He made the remarks amid strains in the two countries' relationship over a number of issues including Taiwan and Tibet as well as trade disputes.

Lula refuses to visit grave of founder of Zionism

http://www.presstv.ir/detail.aspx?id=120917§ionid=351020202

Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva has refused to visit the grave of Theodor Herzl, the founder of modern Zionism.

In response to the rebuff, Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman decided to boycott the Brazilian president's visit.

On Monday, Lieberman also criticized Lula's close ties with Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and his plan to visit Tehran in the near future.

Lula described his Middle East tour, which includes scheduled visits to the occupied West Bank and Jordan, as "a mission of peace."

“We are very proud that we can say Latin America and the Caribbean have no nuclear weapons or weapons of mass destruction… We would like to serve as an example for other regions of the world,” he added.

In a speech to the Israeli parliament on Monday, Lula said efforts should be made to turn the Middle East into a nuclear weapons-free zone.

The Brazilian president also spoke of his vision for peace between Israel and its neighbors.

Earlier, in a meeting with Israeli President Shimon Peres and other officials in Jerusalem al-Quds, Lula said, "Mr. President Peres, I dream of the day when the Middle East will have peace so that all peoples can achieve prosperity."

Brazil has been trying to take a higher profile in the international arena over the past few years.

Along these lines, Brazilian officials believe that the country can play the role of an impartial mediator for conflicts in the Middle East.

However, Brazil's solidarity and growing ties with Iran and its support for Iran's civilian nuclear program have angered Israeli officials.

In addition, Lula has rebuked countries with nuclear arsenals that are trying to police other nations that are only seeking to produce energy through peaceful nuclear programs.

The Madness We Call Reality

This is a repost of an article I wrote a year ago (Oct 20th 2007)

By: Stewart Brennan

Everyday we engage in a pressure cooker of daily routines that become more complex and energy consuming as time passes. These sophisticated routines we burden ourselves with, squeezes every last bit of energy out of us until we are practically disabled. What is it that has all of us in a mindless hurry? What is it that empowers us to be an active participant in this “thing” that drives our daily lives and society? Is it real or imagined? I say its time to take a good look at this madness we call reality.

What is this… “Thing”?

It has been chipping away at the foundation of civilization for a very long time. It has crept into and has woven a belief within our minds, and it guides us in everything we do. Those that have control of this “thing” dictate our very existence. “They” use it against us and control our actions with it. “They” will say anything and do everything to grab our attentions away from knowing the truth. They bombard us with planned suggestion to support this “thing” that they control.

The “thing” I am taking about is “money”, and “They” the “Private Bankers”, are the ones who control and Print it. We are totally subservient to them and their money system. It has disconnected us from our free collective ability and isolated us from each other.

Civilization should be based on the wonderful capabilities and accomplishments that humanity has achieved and not on money. Humanity should not be controlled by a few individuals but by the moral pillars of what is honest, and truthful in a just society.

Commercialism impedes our focus on reality:

You can call this monetary system a misguided direction or plan, or whatever you want…Capitalism, Imperialism, or Dictatorship, it doesn’t matter. The real problem, and driver of the current system is the money-maker, his printed-paper, and an idea called financial wealth.

If we choose to remain on this path of “financial wealth”, we will always be controlled by the few that have set their sights on acquiring and controlling anything and everything. If we continue to embrace this system of money and not in the ability of our collective selves, mankind will perish from the Earth.

Remember, “Wealth is in the Soul”, not the bank, or stock market.

What Do We Do?

Today, our survival is in the hands of corrupt bankers and corporations that hire politicians to make laws that benefit the corrupt few instead of the population.

If mankind is to survive, he must evolve out of the illusion that economics portrays and into the Global reality of unity. The reality is that we need to help each other to progress as a species. The purpose in life is not enslavement by debt, but to work collectively for the betterment of mankind or the society. We need to remove the illusion of monetary wealth. Real wealth is not in a bank account, precious metal, or abundance of material. “Wealth is in the Soul”! Imagine a World without money.

Private Bankers and their system of financial wealth have created a World that is dysfunctional. It enslaves society to keep it running. The leaders of the financial system decide on who gets food, water, medicine, and who lives and dies. It makes weapons of mass destruction, and makes tyrants and slaves. Money is the root of all our problems.

A “Society based on money” robs us of our ability to think freely. Our attentions are taken away by commercialism via communication devices like the cell phone, television, radio, and Internet. All of which portray an unrealistic bubble that most people have come to believe is reality. The system is blindly supported by many and not questioned because those that control the system have told you not to question it.

Together we can remove the oppression that money and corrupt officials have imposed on society. Let's create a “World United” where everyone goes to sleep on a full stomach, has enough water to sustain themselves, has the medicine to treat sickness, and schools to teach the values and responsibilities of being alive. Lack of Money should not impede our helping others. It is morally wrong to say that helping someone costs too much! Remove the controlling element of money from society and the future begins to look brighter.

Basic Survival:

Many of us have forgotten how to take care of ourselves and those around us when money is not involved, and I am sure the prospect scares you. The reality is that we have been disconnected from nature and do not have control of our destiny. We need to regain control of our lives… We are supposed to be integrated with nature...that is what is missing in our lives! That missing element in your life, the hole in your soul, that void we try and fill but never seem to satisfy…is our connection to nature.

One day, everything will stop…No more “Grid Electricity”, no more running water, transportation, which means no more food deliveries to stores. Think about how you would survive without electricity…no more communications. TV, radio, Internet, telephones, will all be silent. No more modern-day communications.

Does anyone remember how to build a fire, purify water, gather food, build their own shelters, know what plants and roots will cure your ailments? The world we know or knew will be gone, and that can be scary, but it doesn’t have to be.

Knowledge is your Salvation:

Our Grandparents or great grandparents and for some of us, our parents, knew how to survive hard times. They also warned us about the Private bankers and their money. My generation grew up without knowledge of hard times. We are the TV generation, born and raised.

Right now, we need to prepare for the collapse of the American Empire and the financial system that controls the World…and that means to learn everything about basic survival.

We need to get involved now by building trust in our communities. Reconnect with nature. We have to approach life as a unified community. The very lives of our children and grand children depends upon it.

Money and its guarantee of greed is the destroyer of our World. It is the sole reason for war. All crimes committed are sprung directly or indirectly from greed and the society that money created. In a future world devastated by economic upheaval…survival will come down to who was ready.

Disconnected from Nature:

We are now completely disconnected from nature and our symbiotic relationship with it. Individually, we no longer know how to provide the basic needs we require to survive. We are completely dependent on the function of the current economic system and the direction we have embraced is leading us to complete destruction. But now, “The Financial System” appears to be feeding on its self.

The foundation on which our modern world is built is crumbling, and with it the whole world will fall because government would have you believe that being a social society is evil when in fact it is quite the opposite.

Humanity needs strong characters to stand up against the endless waves of anger, brutality, and oppression that are systematically removing Human Rights and freedoms of the individual. It is up to everyone that reads this plea to stand up and make a difference in his or her perspective countries and or communities. Not one country, province, or state, and not one individual can escape the oppression that the World Bank and ruling class have imposed upon us. The time to act is NOW!

Be prepared; get back in touch with your surroundings and your community. Plan for the survival of your community in a long-term disaster scenario, and do it collectively together. We depend on each other to survive. We cannot do it alone. Be at peace.

LaRouche On Dollar Collapse

Lyndon LaRouche made the following remarks to a Washington, D.C. audience on Oct. 31.

As you should know—let me make it clear, if you don't—the present international monetary system is effectively now finished. The date on which the collapse will actually occur, officially, is not yet determined. These things can not be precisely predicted, because there are too many factors. But the situation in the U.S. currency is absolutely hopeless. There's no possibility of a recovery; there's no possibility of a cessation of the present monetary crisis.

If it were to continue without remedy, then you would say, the chain-reaction effect would probably be a general collapse of the international monetary-financial system. However, there are things that could be done to stop the process. I'm the author of one of the proposed pieces of legislation in the United States, which will stop the process. What is required is, to actually set up a new international monetary system, a provisional one, to replace the present world monetary system, to stop the process of foreclosures, to fix and freeze some of the relative values of currencies internationally, until nations can come to an agreement to reestablish a new, emergency fixed-exchange-rate system. It's the only possible way in which a general, chain-reaction collapse of the entire international financial-monetary and economic system could be prevented.

Therefore, the question before us, is, in addition to the importance of understanding that there is no possibility that this present U.S. dollar system will not collapse, and will not take the world system down with it, the only alternative is to introduce a new monetary agreement, which can stop the collapse. What that would involve is this: I have proposed, for example, the legislation which is now being debated in the Congress and in the states, and that is, to establish what we call a "firewall": It is to have a Federal law enacted, which would stop proceedings on all foreclosures on mortgages, and put the system under bankruptcy protection, to stop this foreclosure process, which is going to become worse, in any case; and secondly, to provide Federal protection to certain categories of banks which are nationally chartered banks or state-chartered banks.

'We Must Freeze the System'

We must freeze the system. There is no way in which you can reorganize the system in its present form. You must first freeze it. And the first step, is to stop all action on foreclosures on mortgages. If a mortgage is foreclosed, you stop the proceedings. If a bank is in jeopardy, the bank is protected. And then, there will have to be special laws passed to regulate what will paid and what will not be paid at this time.

The second thing that's required, apart from this, is a change back in the direction of a fixed-exchange-rate system, of the type of we had under Roosevelt, and afterward, into the beginning of the 1970s. Only a fixed-exchange-rate system can stop the bleeding, and create the circumstances under which control can be reestablished.

Now, to do this, to get that, requires the cooperation of a number of major powers. The United States must agree with Russia, and with China and India, among others, to actually put such a measure into action internationally. If that is done, then we can create the opportunity for negotiating a new international monetary system, which will tend toward a fixed-exchange-rate monetary system of the type that Franklin Roosevelt established in 1944-45. And that is what we must do.

We also have to make other changes. We can no longer have a floating-exchange-rate trade system. We must go back to the idea of emphasis on physical values and related values. For example, what we set up, particularly since 1970-71: We created this floating-exchange-rate system, the post-Bretton Woods system, which had the purpose of shifting production of goods away from Europe and the United States, and into poorer countries where labor was cheaper. So we have exploited cheap-labor markets in the world, to rely on production, and we have taken the production out of the United States and out of Western Europe; and of course, the former Soviet Union was also looted in the same way.

So therefore, we have to recognize that by relying upon a cheap-labor economy, we have actually, in fact, lowered the total level of production and productivity per capita worldwide. We have to change that. There are two ways: First of all, we have to have a general expansion of long-term investment, in physical investment, starting with things like transportation and power. We have one project, which is a Russian project (but not only a Russian project), which is the development of a railway tunnel through the Bering Strait. That would not be simply a tunnel—and the work has already started in Russia on doing this, the preliminary stages. That would mean that essentially, you've taken the entirety of Northeast Asia, which is an area of large raw-materials deposits, essential deposits, and you've opened this up for development, which will be the extension of the Trans-Siberian Railroad route into the Bering Strait area.

This is essential, because, in the world today, if we're going to meet the demands of populations for improvements in physical living standards, we must increase the production of materials for improved living standards, including power, including water-management, the whole works. In order to do that, we must tap into, and organize on a wiser scale, the raw-materials supplies. Now that means cooperation among nations.

We have several major shields which are crucial: You have the Eurasian shield, which is largely concentrated in what was the former Soviet Union, the largest single area of major sources for humanity, especially with respect to Asia itself, where you have a population which is very poor. And to increase the physical standard of living in these areas, requires a great expansion in the production and recycling of essential raw materials, as well as transportation.

You have a second area, which is in Africa: Africa has to be protected. It is one of the major raw-materials sources in the world. Africa's development is necessary for this reason.

We have also in South America, very large and underdeveloped raw-materials resources, which will require large-scale transportation and power, and similar kinds of networks to develop these resources.

Large-Scale, Long-Term Investments

We have, at the same time, to realize that these improvements are long-term: We're talking about capital investments in raw materials and infrastructure, which involve 25 to 50 years or longer. The railways are very long; large-scale water systems are long investments. Therefore, we must have long-term agreements which provide for the capital to create these improvements. At the same time, we must restore the responsibility of Europe and North America for becoming, again, sources of production of high-quality capital goods, for the development of other countries. There is development of capital goods in China and other countries, but it's not sufficient. You must have a higher level of development of capital goods, worldwide, to meet the requirements of a world population.

So therefore, we're talking, essentially, about 50-year treaty-agreements among the nations of the world, creating a new monetary system, and making agreements as part of this on lines of development: for example, major transportation. We've now come to a point where we're developing improved railway systems as an objective. Most nations agree upon this. It's also understood, that much of this should be magnetic levitation systems, rather than track systems. We need to connect the parts of the world which have raw materials, and require them, through large-scale, ground-based systems. Air transport is not efficient. The cost is too high per pound. Water is not sufficient—water-based transportation—because for high-value goods, the delivery is too slow, and too limited. Therefore, the expansion of the ground-based transportation systems, including rails and including magnetic levitation systems, is necessary to meet these requirements. These are long-term investments.

Nuclear power is absolutely required: There is no substitute for nuclear power. There are complements for nuclear power, but no substitutes. Because the problem here, is not simply quantity in terms of kilowatts. The issue here is the temperature-equivalent, what we call the energy-flux density of power sources: Because we are going to have to stop moving petroleum, internationally, as a source of power.

We can not misuse water resources as a source of power. We have a shortage of fresh water. Therefore, we need nuclear power, high-density nuclear power, of the type of the high-temperature gas-cooled reactor, with which to make water—that is, freshwater out of saltwater—because we have a shortage of freshwater sources. Especially India, for example: The southern part of India is destitute, for lack of freshwater resources. And the only solution there, is high-temperature gas-cooled reactors, or similar kinds of nuclear reactors, which can desalinate seawater.

At the same time, rather than relying all round the world, in terms of shipping oil into all parts of the world, we are going to be able to produce fuels from water, with high-temperature gas-cooled reactors and other kinds of nuclear processes. We can make synthetic fuels from water, with high-temperature gas-cooled reactors. We can not make it economically, any other way.

So therefore, we will have essentially, a water-management cycle, complemented by use of petroleum, which will become increasingly significant as a source of raw materials for production stock, and less and less for long-scale transportation. We will use natural gas as an opportunity arises.

U.S. Government 'Clinically Insane'

So, we're at a point now, where I must say, my government, the United States government, is clinically insane. That's the only fair way to describe it. I think everybody knows that the Vice President of the United States, with a certain section of the military, the Air Force, is planning to open up very soon with an attack on Iran, which is supposed to be a "blockbuster attack"—an intense one, with super kinds of explosives. This is insane. Everyone in the world who knows about this, is frightened by the implications of it, because the effect of such an attack would be chaos, and the spread of chaos: It must be stopped.

We have a President who frankly is insane. And that's our situation here—so it's a desperate situation. The financial community in the United States is clinically insane: They're desperate! You're going to see the major financial powers, inside the United States, toppling, one after the other. How rapidly, is not certain, but the rate would be great: Whether it's going to be two or three times as fast as it is now, it probably will be in that order of magnitude. And by the end of the year, and the beginning of next year, you will see a shattered U.S. financial system, and as a result of that, a shattered European financial system, with terrible effects on Asian countries.

So therefore, that's our situation. It's one in which understanding is required. As I've indicated, there are topics which have to be discussed among nations, among all nations, which are not now being discussed adequately. This present world system, this present world monetary-financial system can not survive—under any circumstances! A new system is required, with policy agreements, treaty-agreements among leading nations, especially including Russia, China, and India, and the United States. With those kinds of policy agreements, we can take actions which will prevent global chaos, and can give us negotiating room for setting into place new institutions required to work our way out of this problem.

We need, also, again, a vision on how we're going to approach that. We have to eliminate this post-industrial society. All the ideology of the post-industrial society must be eliminated, otherwise, there's no chance for humanity. You can not tolerate what Al Gore represents, unless you want to destroy humanity. It's not tolerable.

We have to go back to a high-tech, science-driven approach to economy. And this means, first of all, the emphasis, as I said, on large-scale infrastructure investments, and to create large masses of credit, not only to fund long-term infrastructure improvements, but also to fund the productive industry, of private industry, which will be stimulated by the production and development of major basic economic infrastructure.

These are the alternatives.

What is needed, to do this, is more discussion, in nations and among nations, about the kind of subjects I just spoke of. Without discussion, obviously, we will not come to agreement. These are things that have to be agreed upon, which have not been discussed, which are not on the table now, as negotiating points, and therefore, people assume things are going in a different direction.

But the thing to understand: This is not just a U.S. crisis, nor is it just primarily a U.S. crisis. It's a crisis of the dollar, which is a crisis of the world financial system, because the dollar is still the denominator of the world financial system and economic system. But if a collapse of the dollar occurs—and we're now down 30% in the recent period, of collapse in the value of the dollar—if that continues, and a breakdown of the U.S. financial system occurs without remedies, then you will see, Europe will go down totally, the British will go down totally (even though they're now partly a factor causing the problem, but they'll go down totally). And the rest of the world will go down, because a collapse of Europe and the United States will mean a collapse of the world economy as a whole.

This is a high-tech world. We have a population over 6.5 billion people. We can not sustain a population of 6.5 billion people, and their aspirations, without a high-tech economy, and a global one.

That's our situation.

Bush & Cheney are Spoiling for World War 3

By: Stewart Brennan

If you missed president Bush addressing the nation last Wednesday Oct 17th, 2007, you missed an American Terrorist warning the planet that he will start “World War 3” if he doesn’t get his way. Several days later, just so that everyone understood, Dink Cheney followed up this threat with World War warnings to Iran with the zeal of a madman and stated that the “International Community” was on their side. Are the Americans justified in issuing World War threats?

A World War against a tiny nation of Iran does not seem feasible assuming that the threat was directed at Iran alone. Somehow, I think it was also words of warning to Russia and China not to back Iran in the Security Council of the U.N. America wants Iran isolated so that they can control the Oil under the Iranian soil. The USA has drawn a line in the sand and warned the Russians and Chinese that if you back Iran, you risk a Global Conflict. Vladimir Putin addressed the World in Tehran earlier this week and stressed patience by waiting for the UN inspectors report; at the same time he also said that they would not tolerate war in the region.

The World it seems, and the American people must prepare themselves for the prospect of a Global Conflict. Why else would these American Terrorists bark these words if not to inflict a terror on the World. Bush and Cheney have served “The ultimate terror threat” in my opinion, which is Total annihilation.

Who Supports America?

The international community does not support America. The only nations that support the USA are Israel, and France, and they do not have the voice of the people. As a Canadian, I will NOT side with the USA and nor will most of my countrymen. The only International Community that supports the Americans is the International World Bank because to them, “War is Profit” short term and long term.

Reasons of Insanity:

America no longer controls the Worlds oil and believe they must get their hands on it to maintain what they term as freedom and democracy. In other words, the Americans have voted amongst themselves to take another nations natural resource and given themselves the freedom to do it. Freedom will be achieved when the World is free of the American Military Industrial Complex and the Private Bankers that steer and support their greedy gains.

I believe the USA is serious when it threatens World War 3!

Bush and Cheney need to be forcibly removed from office, if we are to have any hope of World Peace. The American Government has a history of inflicting terrorism throughout the World by using covert operations to cause upheaval in strategic nations with wealth not controlled by the machine called American freedom. Who will stop them now?!

Here is how I see the Bush / Cheney plan playing itself out.

In the coming weeks, a self-inflicted attack by the US government will be condemned as a terrorist plot of Iranian origin. The Bush & Cheney White house will use this staged event to rally the people of the United States and a few other nations to go to war. Civil liberties will be removed, the draft will be instated, and all elections will be put on hold. Russia and China will side with Iran and will protect the tiny nation from American aggression. George Bush will have his World War 3!

As a deterrent, to coin the bush lingo, “we should remove the threat altogether” and forcibly remove George Bush, and Dink Cheney “before their answer comes in the form of a mushroom cloud”!

Nuclear Deal with India May Be Near Collapse

By: Stewart Brennan

This Post is a reply to: Nuclear Deal with India May Be Near Collapse

By Robin Wright and Rama Lakshmi - The Washington Post

A controversial nuclear deal between the United States and India appears close to collapse after the Indian prime minister told President Bush yesterday that "certain difficulties" will prevent India from moving forward on the pact for the foreseeable future.
-----------------------

The news that the “Nuclear Deal with India May Be Near Collapse” is a major victory for world peace and a visionary hope of freedom from oppression.

The United States has been positioning itself for a greater war and conquest over any opposition to its policies and has bullied nations to side with it or face the consequences, which could only mean military response. Given the current administrations record on national and international policies, we should all breath a sigh of relief and continue to question any policy of the current American government. A government I might add, that infringes on the freedoms, health and welfare of its own citizens.

The Bush government has a 10-point program for removing the freedoms of the American people, the same 10 points that the Nazi Party used to seize and retain power and then reign in terror on its people and the World. There is no difference in their approach. Any set back to their agenda should be hailed as a victory!

The USA has been playing dangerous politics with India & Pakistan.

These are two nations that have a history of differing opinions. Military positioning and pressure on Pakistan is the real threat that has been lost by the New World Order Americans. I would say that Pakistan no longer has a gun to its head and the area’s four major combatants can relax their shoulders for a moment. The escalation and mounting tensions of War and rebellion in the region has dropped because this deal is now almost dead. America sought to isolate Pakistan while at the same time, it served notice to all the Asian nations including China and Russia that America has a close nuclear ally on their door steps.

The American presence in India has unnerved the entire region. Russia & China are now in a tight military and economical pact together against the Western Nations who lust for War. Positioning and military preparation for an all out War was escalating rapidly on Asian soil. It is less so now with the collapse of this treaty between the USA and India.

I for one congratulate the free people of India for standing up to an American Bully. Now if only the American people could stand up to their totalitarian regime, our species might move ahead to World Peace and a utopian society that right now is still only a dream or vision of a dreamer.

Stewart

Anglophones in Quebec Have No Rights

Letter to the Canadian People:

Most Canadians do not know that the Province of Quebec has an English population. That is because the politicians in Quebec are KILLING our language and culture. Federal Politicians are NOT helping the Anglophone community in Quebec either. In fact Mr. Harper has embraced the Francophone minorities in other Provinces but NOT done one single thing for the Anglophone community in Quebec!!!

The English Language and Culture is being KILLED in the Province of Quebec and NO ONE is helping us. Every time the question of equal rights is raised in Quebec for the English population, we are shouted down and denied our rights. A FEDERAL leader’s DUTY is to protect minority rights, which also includes the English community in Quebec. Are English Quebecers to be denied their rights as Canadians so that the Federal Conservative Political Party can appease French speaking people for votes?

As a Quebec Anglophone, I am sick to death of not having any rights! French politicians are KILLING my culture in Quebec and you Mr. Harper are helping to make it happen. Our community has been smashed and our friends and family have been scattered across Canada in pursuit of the right to live in their culture and work in their language.

Let me tell you something Mr. Harper, my father and many other English Quebecers fought for this country!! They won the right for their children to live free of oppression. So why is English Quebec STILL being oppressed? We are not allowed to post English signs unless the words are written 50% smaller than the French words…and we had to wait 10 years for the right to put English on the signs. By Quebec Law FRENCH must be predominant however, all Provincial Government buildings including Hospitals are French only. There are little to no English services…unless they are staffed with French people who barely speak English.

The English school system is a shambles with a drop out rate of 40% because 50% of the classes are taught in FRENCH. Our children are not allowed to be schooled in English.

Anyone that comes to Quebec must enroll their children in French schools. No one is allowed their freedom of choice and if by chance you are English speaking, you MUST apply for an English eligibility certificate and prove that you went to an English school.

English is considered illegal in this province. Is that equality? I thought I lived in Canada, where I was guaranteed my rights? I am not working because I am denied the right to work in my language. I'm not fluently bilingual but I understand and converse well enough, so why the prejudice?

I have lived in this Province all of my 47 years. I have a College education (Electrical Engineering), depth and experience in modern Manufacturing practices and systems but I no longer have any rights. Not even to complain.

I am still denied a job in this Province because I am not Fluent in French and I am not alone! Any company that has French management or a French person in charge of human resources will not hire English-speaking Quebecers. A growing majority of the Quebec Anglophone jobless are seeking social assistance, and help from food banks…I am no stranger to asking for help in this regard. It is demoralizing to an educated and skilled worker, especially when we are told that the jobless rate is at a 30 year low.

Why hasn’t the rest of Canada heard about the struggle of the English community in Quebec? Is it because of Government controlled media spewing propaganda? An inept media? Fascist Politicians? Please, someone help us here!! The Montreal English Newspaper will not print this letter. Is it because French interests own the paper?!

The Anglophone community is hanging on by a thread and the Montreal Gazette does not help us! The CBC, and CTV do not help us! I am willing to bet that not one Canadian Newspaper will run this letter. Why?

If one Canadian newspaper includes this letter, who ever reads it, please send me an e-mail to confirm it.

Prejudice, hate, and anger are the tools of dictators and I say this, that YOU Mr. Harper are a hypocrite for selling out the English community in Quebec. Why haven’t you pushed for equal rights in this Province? Scared of a political backlash? Why not stand up to the French Quebec that oppresses the English people in the province…stand up and say “Respect is a two way street, to earn it, you also have to give it. Change the laws!!”

I grew up embracing all cultures, and I will NOT be conveniently sacrificed for political gain! I am a HUMAN BEING just like anyone else! Are French people more important than English people Mr. Harper?!!? …Or do you seek their votes?

I have 5 children who also do not speak French very well…what is their Future? What is the future of this Canadian family? Will we be just another family broken up and scattered across Canada? Or will we end up living on the streets? The creditors are pushing me closer to the streets every day.

I am tired of the typical brush off or Quebec Politicians answer of, “You have to be French.” or “You can work anywhere else in Canada.”…Those are not options in a free and equal society of Canada. That is Quebec dictatorship.

I am not allowed to complain, and in a country that prides itself on being fair to minorities why has it forgotten the English community in Quebec? What are Federal Canadian politicians afraid of? Are they afraid of risking separation? Is the Anglophone community in Quebec to be sacrificed for fear? What do I tell my children? The best thing is to move? Wave the magic “demanage wand” and tap your heels, “There’s no place like home!”…“Where is my home?”

I do not have the means to leave this Province, and most Ontario, Alberta, or B.C. companies will not hire from so far away, especially when I have to start from scratch financially. I speak French better than you Mr. Harper. Maybe I should ask the Canadian people for your job! At least I would treat ALL Canadians with respect!!
