'US, Israel behind Iran scientist killings'

Senior Iranian lawmaker Kazem Jalali says the assassination of Iranian scientists shows the desperation of the US and Israel in dealing with Iran.

"When the Americans and the Zionist regime [of Israel] realized that they cannot stand against the resolve of the Iranian nation and [after they] witnessed our nuclear achievements they resorted to assassinating [our] scientists," he told reporters on Sunday.

The Speaker of the Majlis (parliament) National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, Jalali, went on to add that these violent measures taken by the enemy indicate the depth of their desperation.

"[Daryoush] Rezaienejad's assassination was a blind operation in which an innocent individual was gunned down on the street, "Jalali was quoted by IRNA.

He added that the Iranian nation is clear on the identity of the terrorist and their supporters.

On Saturday, unknown gunmen killed prominent Iranian student, Rezaienejad, outside his house.

Rezaienejad and his wife were on their way to their child's kindergarten when they were approached by two men on a motorbike. The gunmen called him by name and shot Rezaienejad, 35, in the neck when he turned around.

No group or individual has claimed responsibility for the attack.
