The US military forces in Iraq are actively involved in training members of an anti-Iranian secessionist terror group, Press TV has learned.
The American soldiers are reportedly training the Khalq-e Arab separatists in the Taji military base in Baghdad governorate on how to carry out bombing and other terror operations, a Press TV correspondent reported.
Iran has arrested five members of the terrorist group in the past month over involvement in the assassination of Iranian police forces.
Khalq-e Arab separatists are seeking to break away Iran's oil-rich Khuzestan province in the south.
The border region was the scene of heavy bombardments and the deadly invasion by Iraqi forces between 1980 and 1988, led by the executed Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein.
Saddam also intended to separate the southern region from a nascent Islamic Republic.
Meanwhile, Washington has dispatched several delegations to Iraq to mount pressure on Baghdad to allow US military bases to remain in the country.
The US reportedly intends to keep some 20,000 of its troops in Iraq as “diplomats.”
