Russia is firmly dedicated not to let pass an initiative of foreign military intervention into Syria in the UN Security Council.

“We always said we’re strongly against any kind of external interference into the Syrian conflict, because it would only worsen the situation and bring unpredictable consequences for Syria and the whole region,” Russia’s Deputy Foreign Minister Gennady Gatilov told Interfax.

He also said that Russia is opposing the convention of a new UN Security Council meeting on Syria in the near future.

The UN Security Council president's statement concerning the tragic events in Houla, “is a strong enough signal to the Syrian parties and is a sufficient reaction of the Security Council,” the Russian diplomat told Interfax. Any new measures to affect the situation “would be premature for the Security Council,” he stressed.

China is siding with Russia regarding the Syrian conflict. On Wednesday, the spokesperson of the Chinese Foreign Ministry Liu Weimin confirmed the official position of Beijing being against any sort of foreign military intervention into internal Syrian affairs.

The Russian diplomat commented on the statement of the French President Francois Hollande about possible foreign military interference into Syria.

Earlier, the French president did not exclude military intervention in Syria, saying “Military interference is not out of the question, but only with due respect to norms of the international law, which means a decision of the Security Council of the UN”.

At the same time the French president noted that “another solution” is preferable. He called on for more sanctions to be imposed on the Syrian government. Uniting Syrian opposition is another task he spoke of.

The French position has also been supported by Belgium and Australia

Mubarak charged with killing Egyptians

Former Egyptian ruler Hosni Mubarak

An Egyptian committee tasked with investigating the violence during the recent revolution has charged former ruler Hosni Mubarak for the murder of protesters.

The committee says Mubarak, as the head of the government at the time, was responsible for the death of the protesters in January, Reuters reported on Wednesday.

It has submitted its charges to the Public Prosecutor's office.

The committee earlier accused former Interior Minister Habib al-Adli of ordering police to open fire at demonstrators.

Adli is charged with the responsibility for the withdrawal of policemen from the streets after January 28 in order to spread chaos and cause a security vacuum.

More than 380 people died and thousands were injured in the protests leading up to the revolution in February.

On Sunday, Egyptians overwhelmingly voted in favor of constitutional amendments in a historic referendum weeks after Mubarak handed over power to Egypt's Supreme Council of the Armed Forces.

Egypt has been ruled by men of military backgrounds since 1952.

The military council has promised a swift transition to civilian rule.

However, critics are skeptical about a rapid transition towards democracy and civilian rule and maintain that demonstrations will continue until all their demands are met.

They say all political prisoners must be released and an investigation launched into the conduct of officials responsible for the violence used against civilians.

A major Egyptian youth movement has called on fellow citizens to participate in a protest on Friday against a new law that prohibits demonstrations and strikes.

The 25 January Revolution Youth Coalition, which led the 18-day revolution against the former Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak said "The Friday of Cleansing" protest will be held outside the Egyptian Radio and Television Union in Cairo to urge the government to repeal the ban on public protests and strikes, the Al-Masry Al-Youm daily reported on Thursday.

The Egyptian Cabinet on Wednesday ordered a law criminalizing protests and strikes, according to which anyone inciting, organizing, promoting, or calling for a protest will be sentenced to jail or be fined for LE500,000 ($84,000).

The new law, which has not yet been approved by the ruling Supreme Council of the Armed Forces is "a serious indicator of a political direction that will act as a barrier against any real democracy, which the people have the right to practice,” the movement said in a statement.

This is "an unacceptable and unjustified setback to the revolution's achievements, while at the same time, some of the labor protesters should have given the government a chance to meet their demands in light of the difficult economic situation now facing the country," the statement added.

The coalition also stated that protesters on Friday will demand the resignation of all officials loyal to the former regime and express their solidarity with assaulted students in Cairo University, who attempted to stage a sit-in on Wednesday to call for the resignation of the dean of the university.

On Sunday, Egyptians overwhelmingly voted in favor of constitutional amendments in a historic referendum weeks after Mubarak handed over power to Egypt's Supreme Council of the Armed Forces.

The military council has promised a swift transition to civilian rule, however, critics have taken a less sanguine view of the promise, saying that demonstrations will continue until all their demands are met.

They say all political prisoners must be released and an investigation launched into the conduct of officials responsible for the violence used against civilians.

Religion-based parties banned in Egypt

Egypt's ruling junta has approved a constitutional amendment which prevents the establishment of political parties based on religion and discrimination between citizens on grounds of origin, language or gender.

The amendment to Law 40 of 1977, which regulates the establishment of political parties, allows them to be founded by notification, reported the Egyptian Al-Masry Al-Youm on Wednesday.

A notification of establishment of a party that is signed by 1,000 founding members needs to be presented to the upper house of Egypt's parliament, Shura Council's Political Parties Affairs Committee (PAC).

The party can begin political activities provided that it receives no objection from PAC.

The new party's founders must then, at their own expense, publish their names in two broadly circulated daily newspapers within eight days of submitting the notification.

Under the new law, the establishment of political parties based on religious or geographical grounds, or discrimination between citizens on grounds of sex, origin, language, religion or creed is forbidden.

The new law also prohibits political parties with foreign affiliations from being founded, and it bans donations of any kind from foreign persons. It says parties can be self-funded through non-commercial activities under the condition that their main goal is to serve the principles of the party.

The regime of the ousted Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak used to control the establishment of parties through PAC, which prevented parties from exercising political activities.

On February 11, Mubarak was forced to step down following nationwide protests that demanded an end to his longtime rule.

Around 300 people have reportedly lost their lives during the clashes with the Egyptian security forces, while many others have also been wounded as a result of the government's crackdown on anti-government protesters.

Egyptians vote for change

Egyptians have overwhelmingly voted in favor of constitutional amendments in a historic referendum, clearing way for fair elections in the North African country.

The organizing commission chairman Mohammed Attiya announced on Sunday that there was a 41 percent voter turned out in Saturday's poll, which was the country's first referendum following the ouster of President Hosni Mubarak.

Officials say the referendum will pave the way for parliamentary and presidential elections within six months.

It will also take further steps to establish a new Egyptian political system. The vote will reduce Egypt's unlimited six-year presidential tenure to two four-year terms.

About 45 million Egyptians were eligible to take part in Saturday's referendum.

The developments come weeks after Mubarak handed over power to Egypt's Supreme Council of the Armed Forces, which is headed by Defense Minister Gen. Mohammed Tantawi. Egypt has been ruled by men of military backgrounds since 1952.

The military council has promised a swift transition to civilian rule.

However, critics say they are skeptical about a rapid transition towards democracy and civilian rule and maintain that demonstrations will continue until all their demands are met.

They say all political prisoners must be released and an investigation launched into the conduct of officials responsible for the violence used against civilians.

The developments come as popular revolutions continue to sweep US-backed autocratic regimes across the Middle East and North Africa.

Five Yards and a Cloud of Dust

By: Willian Rivers Pitt

Last week, Rep. Dennis Kucinich (D-Ohio) made it clear to any and all that he was going to vote "No" on the health care reform package currently being considered by the House. His argument was simple, and on many levels, entirely correct: the current bill is half a loaf, does not contain any kind of public option and is a big, fat giveaway to the insurance and pharmaceutical industries.

Alarm bells started ringing all over the White House, and Representative Kucinich found himself invited for an Air Force One trip with the president. The plane landed, and Representative Kucinich emerged with an announcement that he would, in fact, be voting "Yes" on the bill. Moreover, he immediately swung into action and began whipping votes to make sure the bill gets passed, a move his colleagues described as "unprecedented."

What happened? Did Kucinich cave under pressure? Was there some savage arm-twisting going on during that plane ride? Perhaps. It is more than likely, however, that Mr. Obama sat Kucinich down and explained to him that failure to pass this health care bill would be, politically speaking, the end of the world for his presidency, and for the Democratic Party in general.

"I left with a real sense of compassion for our president and what he's going through," said Kucinich. "We have to be compassionate towards those who are called upon to make decisions for this nation. It's not an easy burden that he has taken up. One of the things that has bothered me has been the attempt to delegitimatize his presidency. That hurts the nation when that happens. He was elected ... this is a defining moment for whether or not we'll have any opportunity to move off square one on the issue of health care. I think it's important that - we have to be very careful that the potential of President Obama's presidency not be destroyed by this debate."

If that sounds more than a little strange to you, you're not alone. Representative Kucinich wasn't talking about the relative merits of the current proposal, or about what needs to be done to improve it. The nuts-and-bolts discussion was left aside in favor of a big verbal hug for the president, and this coming from one of Obama's most vocal Democratic critics in the House.

It would appear, at long last, that Mr. Obama and his administration have finally figured out what so many people have been trying to tell them since they came into office. They are in a war of extermination against an entrenched and ruthless foe. The GOP has no interest in working with the White House on anything. They want to beat the president wherever and whenever they can, not out of any sense of principle or because they disagree on issues of policy, but because they want to get back the power they lost in 2006 and 2008. If it wasn't health care, it would be something else.

After a year of ramming his head into the brick wall of bipartisanship, Mr. Obama finally seems to understand the nature of the fight he is engaged in, and the nature of the opponents arrayed against him. The fact that it took so long to realize the patently obvious fact that these people don't care about anything beyond slicing his hamstrings has made his task that much more difficult, and now it is crunch time. This was almost certainly the message Mr. Obama conveyed to Representative Kucinich, and given the alacrity with which Kucinich has moved to support and defend the White House, it must have been one hell of a convincing argument.

Robert Reich, who served as Labor Secretary under President Clinton, knows all too well what happens when the GOP successfully pulls out all the obstructionist stops and upends a major policy initiative by a Democratic president. In fact, he learned those lessons the last time a push for health care reform was undertaken. Reich wrote:

Health care reform is necessary, and House Democrats should vote for it because it's best for the nation. They should also remember the political lessons of history. To paraphrase Mark Twain, history doesn't repeat itself but it does rhyme. As the White House and the House Democratic leadership try to line up 216 votes to pass health care reform - and as Republicans, aided by the National Association of Manufacturers and abetted by fierce partisans like Newt Gingrich, try to kill it - I can't help thinking back to 1994 when the lineup was much the same.

I was serving in the Clinton administration at the time. In the first months of 1993 it looked as if Clinton's health care proposal would sail through Congress. But the process dragged on and by 1994 it bogged down. We knew health care was imperiled but none of us knew that failure to pass health care would doom much of the rest of Clinton's agenda and wrest control of Congress out of the hands of the Democrats. In retrospect, it's clear Republicans did know.

...
In early September, William Kristol of the Project for the Republican Future spelled out the next stage of the Republican battle plan: "I think we can continue to wrap the Clinton plan around the necks of Democratic candidates." And that's exactly what they did. On November 8 voters repudiated President Clinton. They brought Republicans to power at every level of government. Democrats went from a controlling majority of 257 seats in the House of Representatives to a minority of 204, and lost the Senate.

I remember how shocked we were the morning after the votes were counted. I asked one of Clinton's political advisors what had happened. "It was health care," he said, simply. (That advisor, by the way, is now in the Obama White House.)

Today's Republican battle plan is exactly the same as it was sixteen years ago. In fact, it's been the same since President Obama assumed office. They never were serious about compromise. They were serious only about regaining power. From the start, Republicans have remembered the lesson of 1994. Now, as they prepare to vote, House Dems should remember the lesson as well.

How and why the endgame for this health care legislation will play out has become quite clear at this point. Shamefully enough, this thing has to get passed, not because it is in the best interests of the American people, and not because it is a good bill. It has to get passed to salvage this presidency, to keep Congress from returning to Republican rule, and to show whoever might still be watching that this White House can crack the procedural whip and actually make use of the super-majority they've squandered so completely to date.

It is a disgraceful situation, but as Reich points out, victory (such as it is) beats the hell out of the alternative. Kucinich saw it that way, at least.

Turkey recalls envoy to Sweden over genocide vote

Turkey has recalled its ambassador to Stockholm after the Swedish parliament branded the killing of Armenians by Ottoman forces during World War I as "genocide."

"We strongly condemn this resolution, which is made for political calculations. It does not correspond to the close friendship of our two nations. We are recalling our ambassador for consultations," Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said in a statement released on Thursday. He also cancelled a Stockholm visit scheduled for next week.

Turkish ambassador to Sweden, Zergun Koruturk, told Swedish television program Aktuellt that the vote would have "drastic effects" on Ankara-Stockholm relations.

"I am very disappointed. Unfortunately, parliamentarians were thinking that they were rather historians than parliamentarians. It's very, very unfortunate," Koruturk said.

Swedish Foreign Minister Carl Bildt said the vote was a "mistake" but that it did not change the position of his government, which supports Turkey's bid for membership of the European Union.

He noted that the vote could complicate efforts between Turkey and Armenia to normalize relations after a century of hostility. Turkey and Armenia signed two protocols last October to normalize relations. Parliaments of the two countries have not passed them yet.

Sweden's parliament narrowly approved the resolution Thursday that described the 1915 killing of Armenians in Turkey as genocide. The resolution was passed by an extremely narrow margin, with 131 parliamentarians voting in favor and 130 against in the 349-seat assembly. Another 88 lawmakers were absent during the vote.

The Swedish vote comes less than a week after the Foreign Affairs Committee of the US House of Representatives also approved a similar resolution. The non-binding resolution was approved by a vote of 23 to 22.

Turkey fiercely rejects Armenian claims that more than a million of its people were deliberately killed as some sort of a social-cleansing campaign.

Ankara points to historical evidence, ignored by Armenian lobbyists and their Western supporters, that puts the figure of Armenian victims at 300,000 and also makes clear that nearly as many Ottoman Turks were killed as well in the civil unrest that led to the downfall of the Ottoman Empire.

US observers have also pointed to the close association of the influential Armenian lobby in the US with the powerful Israeli lobby in pushing through the symbolic resolution as a general publicity campaign against the Muslim state of Turkey, which has become one of the leading critics of violent Israeli policies against the Palestinians.

The Security Council Will Vote Against Morality and Corporate Media Wont Cover it?!

By: Stewart Brennan
2009 September 20th

I’m left wondering what is to come, as I turn on the autocratic news channels where flashes of War, Disease, Poverty, Famine, and the latest laws that push for a Police State are there to greet my mind and sting my soul. I am wanting, for an end to it. I thought we all wanted the same thing…to live our lives peacefully with everyone else. But it seems our government’s do not believe in peace and must make our lives miserable.

Mainstream media are in collusion with their content controlling advertisers to sway the minds of their audience using a program of propaganda that skillfully chooses images, videos, and poisonous scripts to push an evil narrative approved by a crumbling economic cartel and their dream of a “A New World Order”.

To speak out against this New World Order and its supporters is to be labeled an enemy, a traitor, a racist, a holocaust denier or a conspiracy theorist. This kind of verbal attack is comparative to a rabid dog foaming at the mouth. It is fascist in nature because there is no free speech unless you support their singular Nationalist agenda.

All over the Western World, Politicians have reduced their communication with the people to vile trickery. Political puppets pledge allegiance to the corporate lobby groups, and cast their citizens into the furnace of war, poverty and police state while stating it is the right thing to do. Are we the people, to lose another generation to War, while we watch moral values, and human rights put to death one at a time?

Our way of life has been under the microscope for a long time. Mainstream TV tells us what to eat, what to drink, that we need, who to trust and who to hate. They tell us what is good and what is bad.

And they know what lies we will believe because they tell us what to believe, and so they manipulate and bait us through a carefully programmed narrative. Today’s news will contain what you must believe because to believe otherwise would be to side with the enemy. "Are you not patriotic?"

Well I say, “I am patriotic, I'm patriotic to the human race, not to vile monsters that want to destroy a part of it!"

Humanity Under Attack:

Good moral values are under attack daily by the Banks, Insurance Companies, Pharmaceutical Conglomerates, and Weapons Companies, through lobby groups that control our Governments and Entertainment News.

The time to change things is NOW!

On September 15th 2009, UN Investigator, Judge Richard Goldstone concluded that Israel did indeed commit War Crimes & Crimes Against Humanity for their monstrous attack on the people of Gaza in December 2008 through January 2009. The siege of Gaza by Israel is STILL ongoing!

Interview with Judge Richard Goldstone

The United Nations will meet this coming week, where the five Permanent members of the “UN Security Council” (The USA, Britain, France, China, and Russia) will vote on sending this case to the International Criminal Court of Justice.

Dictatorship by the Security Council:

The recent political moves by US President Barack Obama, and British Prime Minister Gordon Brown suggest that neither the US or Britain are in favor of sending Israel to face War Crimes charges and will use their veto power to side with Israel and deny a War Crimes Trial to take place.

If this scenario plays out, or the Security Council votes against sending Israel to the International Criminal Court of Justice, then the World will have abandoned the moral principals set down by the Nuremberg trials after World War two. In short, it will be as if the Security Council pardoned the NAZI’S from the atrocities they committed during World War two.

Don’t expect the Western News media to report on this important topic or fight for what is right, because they are controlled by the same economic cartel that owns the corporate sponsors as well as the puppet politicians. We already know where they stand and whom they support. They sure do not support moral values.

UN Foundation:

The foundation for the United Nations to even exist in the first place is based on the outcome of World War 2 and the desire to end aggressive War permanently. The Nuremberg trials were a testament to that fact with higher moral ideals adopted as the governing principals...at least that was what I was programmed with.

NO COUNTRY IS ABOVE THE LAW!

It is imperative that we the people make this known to ALL members of the UN. If the Security Council does NOT send Israel to The Hague to face War Crimes Charges, then this will send the wrong signal to the World and the United Nations charter will disintegrate and no longer apply to any member state. It will ultimately unravel the last true World forum of Peace, Hope and Cooperation among nations.

Israel must be sent to “The Hague” to face charges for War Crimes, and Crimes Against Humanity or we will no longer have a United Nations or UN Charter that guarantees equality for “ALL NATIONS”. Don’t let the Security Council vote against morality.

The peace of the World is at stake! Send a letter of reprimand to the United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon and the High Commissioner for Human Rights “Navi Pillay”. Please urge your president, prime minister, king or what ever title they go by, to push for this War Crimes Trial against Israel! The future for your children and / or grand children depends on it!

Sincerely,
Stewart Brennan
