A top advisor to Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad says Palestinian unity is the most serious threat for the Zionist regime of Israel.
“Palestinian unity is the biggest weapon and danger threatening the Zionists,” Ahmad Mousavi, who is also Iran's ambassador to Syria, told Mehr News Agency.
“Palestinian national unity has always been regarded highly by the Islamic Republic of Iran, and we have emphasized it,” he said.
The top presidential aide underlined Palestinian unity would serve the interests of the whole region.
He said several factors have, so far, kept Palestinians from uniting.
“Conciliatory Arab governments, plots against the [Palestinian] resistance [movement] as well as Lebanon and Syria, and normalizing ties with the Zionists have been the three factors preventing Palestinian unity form being achieved,” he said.
He further touched upon a recent agreement between the Palestinian Hamas and Fatah movements, saying such a compromise is what Palestinians desire.
The presidential advisor reiterated that Palestinian groups have all approved of the agreement while Israel has frowned upon the idea.
“The Palestinian nation is prepared to launch a new Intifada soon, and, God willing, we will soon be witnessing the end of the Gaza siege,” he underlined.
“One should bear in mind that it makes no difference to the US which government comes to power in Palestine,” he said.
“In their viewpoint, whatever government takes the reins must recognize Israel,” he said.
Mousavi then urged Palestinians not allow the Israeli regime to be recognized.
