Iran's Ambassador to the Vatican Ali Akbar Nasseri says the biggest threat to world peace is perpetrated by Western powers that violate rights of smaller nations.
Referring to Western attempts in portraying Iran's nuclear program as a global threat, Nasseri emphasized that the real international threat is in fact brought by the unwillingness of global powers to respect the sovereignty of other nations.
Such threat is imposed by "their domineering behavior toward the legitimate interests of other nations," Nasseri was quoted by a Press TV correspondent as saying during a Sunday lecture in Rome.
The remarks come as the US-sponsored sanctions resolution against Iran was passed by 12 votes at the UN Security Council on Wednesday. Turkey, Brazil, and Lebanon did not vote for the effort.
"Iran hopes for a Middle East free of nuclear weapons and weapons of mass destruction," he said while reiterating Iran's slogan of "nuclear energy for all, nuclear weapons for no one."
The Iranian ambassador also talked about the current situation in the occupied Palestinian territory, noting that the basic rights of the Palestinian people are not respected while much is being done by Western powers in support of Israel.
