The Yemeni Army has been deployed in the southern port city of Aden as police abandon duties amid growing anti-government protests in the country.

This comes as three soldiers have also been killed in clashes between army troops and Republican Guards in the city of al-Mukalla.

Thousands of protesters across the country have been calling for the ouster of the embattled ruler Ali Abdullah Saleh since mid-January.

Dozens have been killed and hundreds more wounded during anti-government demonstrations in Yemen.
