Turkey's Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan has warned Israel that it is losing its "best friend in the region," urging Tel Aviv to "immediately" review its policies.
Speaking on Thursday in the aftermath of a deadly Israeli attack on the Gaza-bound Freedom Flotilla, Erdogan blamed Israel for its "violent policy" that will not lead to positive results.
"Those policies would not benefit anybody, especially Israel. Israel should review its approach immediately," Today's Zaman newspaper quoted Erdogan as saying on Thursday in Ankara.
Eight Turks and a US national of Turkish descent were among the victims of Israeli attack on the aid convoy, which was attacked in international waters more than 150 km (90 miles) off the coast of Gaza. The killings have soured Turkey-Israel relations.
Erdogan stressed that Ankara would not turn a blind eye to the inhumane assault.
He said that Israel “made a historic mistake” by attacking the peace activists. “The mistake isn't just against Turkey, but against the citizens of 32 states,” he said.
The Freedom Flotilla convoy was carrying 10,000 tons of supplies and hundreds of politicians, activists and journalists to break the three-year Israeli imposed blockade on the Gaza Strip.
