Hundreds of protesters have demonstrated outside the Spanish Foreign Ministry against Israel's raid on an aid fleet, calling for the closure of Israel's embassy in their country.
Waving the Palestinian flag and chanting slogans against Israel in front of the Spanish Foreign Ministry and throughout the streets of the Spanish capital Madrid, hundreds of people vented their frustration over the deadly Israeli attack on the Freedom Flotilla aid convoy en route to Gaza.
Angry demonstrators on Monday called on Spanish Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero to close down the Embassy of Israel in Madrid.
Protesters held banners reading "Israelis learned from the Nazis," "Israel criminal, European Spanish government, responsible," as they marched to the embassy of Israel, where many chanted "Better to burn that flag" and "We are all Palestinians," Reuters reported.
Spain, which currently holds the presidency of the European Union, summoned Israel's ambassador on Monday for an explanation for the raid on the six-ship convoy carrying relief supplies and boarding foreign activists including three Spanish activists.
Two of the activists, Laura Arau and Manuel Tapial, were members of a Spanish NGO while the third was a journalist from Telesur TV.
Israeli naval forces intercepted the aid convoy Freedom Flotilla in international waters off Cyprus early Monday and swung aboard the ships from helicopters, killing at least 20, mostly Turkish nationals and injuring 50 others
